The last thing that you probably want to plan for or think about is a car accident, but there is always the potential that an accident could occur when you hit the road. By keeping a few essentials in your vehicle at all times, you can ensure that you are prepared for anything, including a wreck that requires collision repair. These are three things that you should always have in the car with you when you get behind the wheel.
1. Cell Phone
Talking on the phone or texting while driving is dangerous, but there is one situation when your cell phone could be a lifesaver in the car -- in the event of an accident. Make sure that you always have your phone with you when you drive, and keep a car charger on hand so that you can charge your battery if needed. Not only can you use your cell phone to call for help after an accident, but you can also use it to take pictures of the damage to your car and any other evidence that might be useful.
2. Important Documentation
Write down a list of names and phone numbers that emergency personnel can call in case of an accident, such as your spouse and nearby family members and friends. You'll also want to have your insurance policy information, car registration card, and other essential documentation close at hand. Consider keeping all of these items together, in a safe and handy place, such as in your glove compartment.
3. First Aid Kit
It's always a good idea to keep a first aid kit in your car in case of an accident. You can purchase a pre-made and pre-stocked first aid kit from a pharmacy or mass market retail store, or you can make your own by including items like bandages of varying sizes, alcohol wipes, pain relievers, tweezers, and a blanket. Not only can these items come in handy in the event of an accident, but they're also good to keep on hand in case someone in your family gets a small cut or otherwise gets hurt while you're on a road trip.
Thinking about a car accident might be scary, but what's even scarier is not being prepared for the possibility of one. Keep these three things in your car at all times, and you can provide peace of mind and help ensure that you are prepared in the event that you are in an accident.Share
